ONTARIO, CANADA – For nearly a decade, Pete Karreman, owner of Omni Basement Systems, has focused on basement waterproofing in Oakville, ON, and the surrounding areas. But recently he’s had another interest: selling his home on Old Guelph Road in Dundas. Not one for conventional behavior, Karreman has decided to use a unique method for getting his house sold. He announced that he is offering $1,000 worth of free beer to whoever buys the house.
This distinctive selling method is one of Karreman’s latest creative marketing ideas. Already known for driving around town in a decked-out and decaled Nissan Cube with a full-size stuffed mannequin sitting in the passenger seat, Karreman is no stranger to getting attention. He views selling his home the way he would view selling a waterproofing product to a homeowner. It’s all about letting the customer know who you are and what benefits they will receive when doing business with you.
“This is an exercise in marketing,” Karreman said. “This is about getting your name out there.”
The house has been on the market since November 12. It’s located on a half-acre of property and features a pool, hot tub, theatre room and panoramic views. It’s on the market for $419,900 and the buyer will have a choice between the free beer or $1,000 worth of free wine.
Omni Basement Systems has been drying wet basements and crawl spaces for about nine years and is located in Hamilton, ON. They are members of the international Basement Systems network of basement contractors and have access to the network’s 27 patented products.

Most newly constructed homes come equipped with a finished basement and the benefits are quite rewarding to the homeowners. These homeowners have little issues with dampness, wetness, mold, mildew and foul smells. However, many people prefer the choice of an older home that offers the look and feel they desire, but a lot of older homes do not have a waterproofed or finished basement. A damp basement can be a nightmare, but a dry, clean basement is a homeowner’s dream; as it greatly increases the amount of storage and living space, and the value of a home.
A crawl space vapor barrier is an effective system that resists the diffusion of moisture through crawl space walls, floors, and ceilings. A certified crawl space vapor barrier contractor can take the following five actions to prevent moisture buildup, flooding, and mold growth in your crawl space. Doing so will create a healthier environment and potentially save you thousands of dollars in water damage or flood repairs!
Thrasher Basement Systems understands the importance of helping homeowners understand radon, and hope you’ll join them this week in raising awareness to the effects of radon exposure!
If you have a home sitting on a dirt, vented crawl space, you probably felt some of the effects. Cold drafts coming up through the floor in winter time, musty smells year round, humidity and mold appearing around the house, even some chronic allergies.
It’s been a rough winter for Connecticut residents. One of the harshest in recorded history.

January, is Radon Awareness Month but, as it comes to an end, it is very important to remember that the dangers of radon gas exposure still linger, as many homeowners are yet to have their homes tested.
